(Mad in America, Nov. 25) A new review shows that the abuse of ADHD drugs in colleges is becoming an epidemic. The paper, published in the Journal of Ethical Human Psychology and Psychiatry, says that the use of drugs such as Ritalin and Adderall has become quite common. Students abuse the drugs to help them study, focus, lose weight, and party late into the night. However, the abuse has its consequences, as the number of emergency room visits have increased dramatically as a result of these drugs. Not only that, while students are able to stay awake longer, they are not necessarily improving grades or performing better in class, studies show. Instead, they are suffering from a drug dependence, several side effects, overdoses and even suicides. READ MORE.
