At Least 21 People Sent to Hospital for Suspected Spice Overdose
Last Updated: Wednesday July 28, 2021
(Tampa Bay Times, March 19) At least 21 people have been treated for negative reactions to synthetic marijuana overdoses in St. Petersburg, Florida. Though lab results are pending to confirm the drug is synthetic marijuana, also known as Spice or K2, the reactions are similar to that of synthetic marijuana. In addition, similar reports have occurred in nearby counties, and authorities believe a bad batch has been making its way through the area. Synthetic marijuana is made of plant matter and sprayed with a chemical meant to mimic the effects of real marijuana, although the contents of the chemical are often unknown. The drug can also be purchased legally under the guise of potpourri or other products. Florida has the third highest number of synthetic marijuana-related calls to poison control centers so far this year. READ MORE.
