Yoga Growing as Treatment for Addiction

(Courier-Journal, July 19) Drug and alcohol recovering addicts are turning to yoga to help them get through stressful periods. One Kentucky yoga studio offers a yoga class that's blended with a 12-step program. More than 200 similar classes are offered throughout the United States. Yoga can help people calm down rather than choose drugs to do the same, and class attendees have said it's been extremely beneficial. One heroin addict says she attends and teaches the class as well, and has developed a stronger mental resistance to choosing drugs. While studies say it's not a replacement for overcoming addiction, some doctors say it's been an excellent complement to the recovery process. READ MORE.
