Research Reveals Four Risk Factors Common in Teen Drug Users

(KEYE-TV, Oct. 10) A new anti-drug program is being tested that's based on research targeting underlying reasons for drug use. The research identifies four traits among children who at high risk of drug abuse. The traits are anxiety sensitivty, impulsiveness, sensation-seeking, and hopelessness. The program, called Preventure, is being tested in Canada, Australia, and Europe. By reaching those kids who display these traits at a young age, program developers hope to teach them healthier ways to handle their issues than through drugs.
