Keeping OTC drugs safe from youth

(The Daily Reporter, Nov. 28) Over-the-counter drug abuse is growing among teens and young adults, without parents even being aware. Prescription drug abuse, too, is the third most commonly abused substance among teens 14 and older. They'll abuse them to get high, stop pain or help them with school work. Both prescription and over-the-counter drugs are easy to obtain by raiding the family medicine cabinet or the cabinets of friends and relatives. Friends will also provide each other drugs that they find in their own homes. It's important for parents to talk to their kids about the dangers of medication abuse, and parents should also not encourage medication as the first answer to all ailments. READ MORE.
