In just one year, nearly 1.3 million Americans needed hospital care for opioid-related issues

(Washington Post, June 20) Patients dealing with opioid-related issues have flooded U.S. hospitals in recent years. Across the nation, there were 1.27 million emergency room visits or inpatient stays due to opioids in 2014 (the latest year when those statistics were available), according to the latest numbers from the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project. That’s a 64 percent jump for inpatient care and a 99 percent jump for ER visits since 2005. Read more.
