Opioid addiction diagnoses rose nearly 500% in the last seven years

(Market Watch, June 29) Over the past seven years, opioid addiction has skyrocketed about 500 percent, according to analysis from the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association.
The organization looked at claims from over 30 million people covered by Blue Cross Blue Shield between 2010 and 2016. They also found that 21 percent of the people covered filled at least one opioid prescription in 2015 and that higher doses and longer prescriptions led to higher rates of addiction. Read more.
