(The Pew Charitable Trusts, July 6) — The sharp increase of drug overdose deaths is overwhelming medical examiners across the nation, forcing many to work overtime and run out of refrigerated storage for corpses.
With the increased demand for autopsies and toxicology examinations, the concern is that performing more than the recommended limit of 325 autopsies in a year, in addition to other duties such as testifying in court, could result in errors. Read more.
