Pain-free detox device works to help fight drug addiction

(WVLT, August 9) A clinic in Tennessee is using a new device to help people quit using drugs. The device, called The Bridge, looks like a hearing aid and is designed to help people addicted to drugs to detox without feeling any pain. It has four leads, attaching to the person’s ear that block pain signals from getting to the brain. "Many people want to go to recovery and they want to be clean, but don't want to go through pain of withdrawals," said Lewis Frazer with The Goodman Center in Knoxville, Tennessee. Withdrawal symptoms can include fatigue, sweating, vomiting or hallucinations. The device is still very new, and while it is FDA cleared it isn’t FDA approved. Read more.
