Opioid crisis: Researchers employ new method to track overdose victims

(Fox News, October 10) University of Pittsburgh researchers are working with officials in their state to produce a new, standardized way to collect and track drug overdose data. In the past, each coroner’s office in Pennsylvania had a different way of recording overdose data. The goal of the project, called Overdose Free PA, is to implement a consistent method of collecting the information in order to highlight trends and where the high overdose areas are. The template for collecting the data includes age, gender, ethnicity and location, Dr. Janice Pringle, of the University of Pittsburgh’s Program Evaluation and Research Unit (PERU), told Fox News.
