(August 22, 2018) Earlier this month, the National Center for Health Statistics released overdose death estimates for the entire country and for each state (the time period between January 2017 - January 2018). These numbers aren't final because drug overdose deaths usually aren't counted right away; they require an investigation and toxicology testing to determine. The statistics below show us how much the deadly overdose rate increase or decreased per state.
The map below shows us how much the deadly overdose rate increased or decreased per state compared to the previous reporting period. Here are a few important notes:
States with Highest Statistical Increase
- Nebraska (+33)
- North Carolina (+22.5)
- Indiana (+15.1)
States with Most Statistical Decrease
- Wyoming (-33)
- Utah (-11.9)
- Oklahoma (-9.2)
