Report: Youth Drug Overdose Deaths Up In 35 States Over A Decade

(USA Today, Nov. 20) A new report shows that drug overdose deaths among youths has increased dramatically in the past 10 years across 35 states. The report, released by the Trust for America's Health, also found that five states—Kansas, Montana, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Wyoming—saw rates quadruple, although they are not necessarily the highest rates of drug use nationwide. Twelve other states saw tripling of drug deaths among youths. Drug overdoses lead in deaths in 2013, compared to motor vehicle accidents. Drug abuse among young people aged 12 to 25 range from alcohol to opioids, with prescription drug overdoses accounting for more than half of drug overdoses in 2013. READ MORE.
