The $50,000-a-Year School That Keeps Teen Addicts Off Drugs

(New York Post, Jan. 17) Drug and alcohol addiction is very real among teenagers, and the Newport Academy in New York City is a beacon of hope for those struggling with their personal issues, ranging from drugs and alcohol to eating disorders and depression. The private school, tagged at $50,000 a year, has psychiatrists and recovery counselors on staff, and random drug tests and group therapy in addition to regular classes, and extracurricular activities. This is the third Newport Academy open nation-wide. It was started by a former addict who recalls his teen years as blacking out while driving. Other students in the school include a 15-year-old Oxycontin addict and another 15-year-old ballet dancer who abused marijuana and Adderall and had an eating disorder since she was 12. READ MORE.
