Heroin, Fentanyl Blamed For Overdose Uptick In Jacksonville

(Health News Florida, May 15) In Jacksonville, Florida, the number of overdoses from heroin laced with fentanyl skyrocketed this year. The Fire and Rescue Department has seen a 100 percent increase in overdoses compared to levels in 2011 through 2015, and 278 percent increase in the past four months. Fentanyl is used in hospitals for anesthesia, epidurals, and chronic pain for cancer patients, but it’s killing heroin users. In some cases, people don’t realize it’s even blended into their heroin.
