Opioid crisis strains foster system as kids pried from homes

(The Associated Press, December 12) In 2016, 92,000 children were forced out of their homes and into the foster care system because of drug-addicted parents, according to data from the U.S Department of Health and Human Services.
This is the highest number of foster care cases involving drug using parents in more than three decades. Between 2012 and 2016 (while the opioid addiction epidemic was worsening nationwide), there was a 32 percent increase in drug-related foster care cases. Read more.
