Colorado Sees Spike in ER Visits After Pot Made Legal

(HealthDay News, March 25) Following the legalization of marijuana in the state, emergency room visits in Colorado due to the drug rose sharply.
According to a recent study, marijuana-related ER visits more than tripled from 2012 to 2016 at UCHealth University for Colorado Hospital. Most of the visits were due to inhaled marijuana, but researchers also noted that visits because of edible marijuana were higher than anticipated. Despite edibles only taking up 0.32 percent of sales during that time period, it was behind almost 11 percent of ER visits. Read more.
