Many drug abusers use family members to 'opioid shop'

(HealthDay News, May 10) If “doctor shopping” – the practice of going to many different doctors and/ or families for prescription drugs – doesn’t work, people looking to misuse opioid prescription drugs often turn to family members who are prescribed the medication, according to new research out of the University of Michigan.

For this study, researchers analyzed 1.4 million opioid prescriptions prescribed to over half a million people and their relatives in 2016. Read more.
