Boom in overdose-reversing drug is tied to fewer drug deaths

(Associated Press, August 6) For the first time in several years, the number of drug overdose deaths went down in 2018, according to preliminary figures from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Experts believe the drop is due to more of the overdose reversal drug naloxone being available to the public. Between 2017 and 2018 the number of naloxone prescriptions given out at pharmacies doubled (from 271,000 to 557,000). Read more.
